About the Sacramento Ballroom Society
We are a not-for-profit organization in the Sacramento area that promotes and enjoys dancing. We are members of the National Fast Dance Association and the Folk Dance Federation of California. We enjoy all types of dancing and we play music for ballroom, latin, and swing, but our emphasis is on ballroom. Check out a sample of a recent playlist here. Beginning in August we will be moving to the Ultimate Dancesport on Kiefer Blvd. We dance on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Sundays of each month, with the 2nd and 4th having an emphisis on modern ballroom and the 3rd Sunday devoted to vintage ballroom. We open our doors at 6pm and provide an optional lesson from 6:30 to 7:30. Then we have open dancing from 7:30 to 10:30. The Sacramento Ballroom Society is a private club, but guests are welcome to attend. Admission is just $5 for members and $8 for guests. For those who show up early for the lesson, we charge just $2 extra for instruction from some of Sacramento's top instructors. We encourage all guests to consider joining us. Information on how to become a member is on the Join Us page.
At the Ballroom Society you can expect to enjoy a delightful evening of graceful waltzes, moving foxtrots, and dramatic tangos. We also play a variety of swing (such as east coast swing, west coast swing, and charleston) and latin music (such as salsa, rumba, and samba). Most of the ballroom music we play is suitable for international standard for those who prefer the international style of dancing. For those who compete, we usually include a competition mix for international standard ballroom (waltz, tango, viennese waltz, foxtrot, and quickstep) and latin (cha-cha, rumba, samba, jive, and paso doble). Each set includes 5 songs with about 90 seconds for each dance. This allows competitors to simulate the conditions found at competitions, but it's fun for everyone to try.
Feedback is always welcome on our choice of music. If you like to hear a particular song or type of dance
then feel free to let us know on our feedback page.
We recommend casual dance attire and suitable dancing shoes. Any smooth leather sole shoe will work, but if you decide to pursue dancing as a recreation, then a pair of suede sole dancing shoes is an excellent investment.
We open our doors at 6pm and offer a 1 hour lesson from 6:30 to 7:30, followed by open dancing from 7:30 to 10:30. Admission is just $5 for our members and $8 for guests, with an extra charge of $2 if you would like to participate in the lesson. If you are interested in joining our club, then I highly recommend coming to one of our dances and see what we are like. If you have a good time then ask for an application or return to this website and apply on-line. We are always looking for fun, friendly people who enjoy dancing. Details on membership are found on the Join Us page. To get the latest information on our schedule and venue, look at our Schedule and Venue pages respectively.
